Dropping of 'Tamil Nadu' from state buses sparks backlash

Tamil Nadu’s transport department has dropped the state's name from stickers on government-owned mofussil buses, a change that has drawn protests from Tamil organisations and political parties and raised questions about administrative transparency and cultural identity.

Buses operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation no longer display the words “Tamil Nadu” in Tamil on stickers fixed to the lower portion of the windshields or on the rear and sides. The revised format shows only “State Transport Corporation’, according to commuters and union representatives who noticed the change across multiple depots, including those under the Villupuram division and other regional units.
