|October 26, 2025
A Kuala Lumpur-bound passenger aircraft operated by AirAsia returned to Chennai International Airport shortly after departure following a bird strike that damaged one of its engines.
The aircraft, carrying 182 passengers and eight crew members, aborted its climb at approximately 11:50 pm and landed safely without further incident.
The bird collision occurred during initial ascent after takeoff. According to preliminary engineering reports, the bird struck the aircraft’s forward section before being ingested into the engine, causing significant damage and necessitating the aircraft’s removal from service for repairs.
Passengers were evacuated and transported to hotels arranged by the airline.
