Anna Bhagya rice smuggling scandal widens; 570 arrested

Food and Civil Supplies Minister K H Muniyappa on Monday informed the Legislative Council that 570 people have been arrested across the state for their involvement in the illegal storage and sale of Anna Bhagya scheme rice.

Responding to a question by BJP MLC CT Ravi at the Suvarna Soudha session, the minister detailed the extensive crackdown launched by the Food and Civil Supplies Department.

“Authorities have so far seized 29,603.15 quintals of illegally stored ration rice and confiscated 314 vehicles used for its transportation,” Muniyappa said.

The minister added that officials and field staff have been directed to conduct regular inspections, and cases will be filed under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 against offenders.
