New definition of Aravalli ranges may spell disaster, says Congress

The Congress has cautioned that the revised definition of the Aravalli Hills, which extend from Delhi to Gujarat, via Haryana and Rajasthan, can have “grave environmental and public health consequences” and has therefore called for an immediate review of the changes in the Supreme Court.

Flagging the issue, Congress general secretary, while citing a newspaper report, said on Thursday that over the years, the Aravalli Hills have been “devastated by mining, construction, and other activities in violation of all regulations and laws” and that “now it appears that this sensitive and sprawling ecosystem will be subject to another severe blow.”
