WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT IN RAJASTHAN: FROM WELFARE SCHEMES TO SELF-RELIANCE

When women are educated, healthy, secure and economically independent, society as a whole advances in a balanced and sustainable manner. Recognising this fundamental truth, the Government of Rajasthan, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has placed women's empowerment at the very heart of governance. What sets this approach apart is its emphasis on policy backed by implementation, data and visible impact at the grassroots level.Women’s empowerment in Rajasthan is not treated as a standalone initiative or confined to a single department. Instead, it has evolved into an overarching governance philosophy influencing decisions across education, health, nutrition, livelihoods, social security and safety. The outcomes of this holistic vision are now reflected in improved indicators and growing confidence among women across the state.

SOCIAL SECURITY: BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION

Social security is the cornerstone of empowerment. The Rajasthan government has taken significant steps to ensure financial stability for women and vulnerable groups. Recently, Rs1,100 crore was transferred directly into the bank accounts of 91 lakh pensioners through Direct Benefit Transfer, ensuring transparency and timely support.

Under the Palanhar Scheme, which supports women raising orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable children, Rs103 crore was disbursed to benefit 5.95 lakh recipients. This assistance not only strengthens family structures but also recognises and supports the caregiving role played by women in society.
