Wholesome Bites: Hung curd sandwiches from your kitchen
The Daily Guardian
|October 01, 2025
With the day and age of modernization and innovation the most common available items in Indian kitchens are also changing their form.

Not only do they add to taste but also have immense nutritional value. One such Ingredient is Curd or Yoghurt as we say. The humble hung curd sandwich: a simple, healthy, and incredibly versatile dish that you can make right in your kitchen with everyday ingredients.
Hung curd (also known as strained yogurt) is made by removing the whey from regular curd, resulting in a creamy, thick, cheese-like consistency. It serves as an excellent alternative to mayonnaise or cream cheese, making it ideal for sandwich fillings. Rich in protein, probiotics, and calcium, hung curd supports gut health while keeping your calorie intake in check.
Whether you're packing a lunchbox, fixing a quick breakfast, or looking for a light dinner option, these sandwiches are sure to hit the spot. The best part? You don’t need anything fancy—just a few vegetables, basic spices, bread, and your homemade hung curd.
Before we dive into the sandwich recipes, here's how you can make hung curd at home:
Ingredients:
2 cups fresh curd (yogurt)
A clean muslin cloth or thin cotton kitchen towel
Method:
Place the muslin cloth over a bowl.
Pour the curd into the cloth.
Gather the corners and tie into a bundle.
Hang it over the sink or above a bowl to drain the whey for 3-4 hours.
Once thick and creamy, transfer it to a bowl and refrigerate until use.
Now that your hung curd is ready, here are three sandwich variations you can whip up easily.
