Their daughters are gone, but their fight lives on

At the We Women Want Conclave 2025, stories of unimaginable loss turned into a collective call for justice and change.

- TDG NETWORK

In a heart-wrenching and deeply emotional session at the We Women Want Conclave and Shakti Awards 2025, grief met resilience as Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya, stood shoulder to shoulder with Ratna and Shekhar Devnath, the parents of a young medical student who was brutally assaulted and murdered in Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital in August 2024.

This rare confluence of two families forever altered by unimaginable tragedy turned the celebratory event into a powerful platform for justice, remembrance, and reform. The segment, moderated by journalist Devika Chopra, was a raw reminder that behind every headline is a dream shattered, a life lost, and a family left to fight for justice.

Systemic failures and legal loopholes

The Devnaths expressed their disillusionment with the legal system. "We never imagined we'd have to knock on the doors of courts. But today, we're fighting not just for justice, but against powerful forces trying to shield the guilty," Shekhar said, naming senior lawyers and investigating officers who, he alleged, acted against their daughter's interest.

"Why did a woman like Brinda Grover defend the accused and obstruct our path to justice?" he questioned.

"And why did the CBI's investigating officer Seema Pahja try to downplay evidence in court?" With reams of paperwork in hand, Shekhar pledged to carry forward the fight: "Like Edison failed 2,499 times before inventing the bulb, we will go wherever we must.

We will bring justice."

"HER DREAM WAS TO SERVE THE POOR"
