The Ultimate Winter Care Guide: Keep Skin Problems at Bay This Season
The Daily Guardian
|December 16, 2025
Winter brings with it a distinct set of challenges for the skin and hair.
Rapid changes in temperature, coupled with cold winds and low humidity, often strip the skin of its natural moisture, leading to dryness, irritation, and flareups of existing skin conditions. With the right care and timely precautions, however, most winter-related skin and hair problems can be effectively managed.
According to Dr. Akriti Gupta, Founder and Chief Dermatologist at Jivisha Clinic, Gujranwala town and Yamuna Vihar, New Delhi, “The onset of winter often aggravates dryness-related skin concerns. Cold, dry air demands more disciplined moisturizing and gentler skincare routines to maintain skin health.” She emphasizes that while the market is flooded with skincare products, choosing the right formulation and using it correctly is far more important than quantity.
Light, non-greasy moisturizers are ideal for daytime use, while heavier products such as cold creams or petroleum jelly work best overnight. Moisturizers are most effective when applied immediately after bathing, while the skin is still slightly damp.
COMMON WINTER SKIN CONCERNS & CARE TIPS
1. Hands and feet tend to crack easily in winter. Regular lubrication is essential. For cracked heels, soaking feet in lukewarm salt water followed by urea-based creams can be very effective.
