The Hidden Power of Unlearning
The Daily Guardian
|August 26, 2025
Unlearning represents a profound psychological journey of releasing deeply ingrained beliefs, habits, and thought patterns that no longer serve personal growth and development.
Unlike traditional learning, which accumulates knowledge, unlearning requires the courage to deconstruct existing mental frameworks and create space for transformative perspectives.
Dr. Chandni Tugnait, a renowned MD (A.M), Psychotherapist, Life Alchemist, Coach, and Healer, as well as the Founder and Director of Gateway of Healing shares some key insights on the power of unlearning.
The cognitive complexity of unlearning: Our brains naturally develop neural pathways that reinforce familiar thinking patterns. These cognitive shortcuts, while efficient, can become barriers to personal evolution. Unlearning demands intentional disruption of these established neural networks, challenging individuals to question long-held assumptions and approach experiences with renewed curiosity.
Origins of limiting beliefs: Limiting beliefs often originate from childhood experiences, cultural conditioning, and past traumas. These internalized narratives create invisible barriers that restrict personal potential. Unlearning becomes a deliberate process of identifying and dismantling these unconscious narratives that silently dictate life choices and emotional responses.
