Telangana Hands Kaleshwaram Case to CBI After Probe Flags Lapses

The Telangana government has handed the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after two official probes—the Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose Commission of Inquiry and the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA)—flagged serious lapses, even as political crossfire intensified between the BRS and the BJP.
The Ghose Commission, set up to examine alleged irregularities in the construction of the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, submitted its report on July 31, 2025; the state cabinet approved it on August 4, 2025 and decided to table it in the Assembly.
The Commission cited negligence, suppression of facts and financial irregularities, concluding that construction faults occurred across the three barrages and that the previous government failed to prepare an adequate plan for KLIP.
The NDSA found that Medigadda suffered damage due to deficiencies in planning, design and quality control, pointing to poor quality and maintenance.
