Talchappar Sanctuary Welcomes Rosy Starling Migratory Birds

Among these, the most enchanting and visually striking visitors are the Rosy Starling birds, also popularly known as Pink Mynas. Year after year, these beautiful migratory birds arrive in large flocks, creating a spectacular natural display that delights bird watchers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers alike.

Arrival of the Rosy Starling: A Seasonal Spectacle

Rosy Starlings are migratory birds that travel thousands of kilometers each year from their native habitats in Central Asia. Countries such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and parts of Northern Russia serve as their breeding grounds during the spring and early summer. As the harsh cold months end and temperatures rise, these birds embark on their journey towards the Indian subcontinent, arriving typically between March and June. They choose Talchappar Sanctuary as one of their favored wintering and resting destinations before returning to their native homes with the onset of the monsoon season.

Their arrival is eagerly awaited every year, signaling a change in seasons and the vibrancy of wildlife activity in the sanctuary. For local communities and tourists, it is a moment to witness nature's rhythm and marvel at the wonder of migration.

Identifying the Rosy Starling

The Rosy Starling is easily recognizable by its distinctive and striking appearance. The bird's body is a soft, light pink shade, which gives it the name "Rosy" or "Pink" Myna. This gentle pink contrasts sharply with its glossy black wings and shiny black head, making it one of the most colorful members of the starling family. The pink plumage glistens under sunlight, adding to their visual appeal.
