Understanding and having self-respect is important for personal growth.

- B.K. ATAM PRAKASH

Self-respect is key to spiritual growth

Our self-respect shapes our thoughts and behaviour.

Self-respect is not ego, as some people suspect. It arises from self-awareness and acceptance, and is based on our inner worth, whereas ego comes from insecurity and comparison, which create the need for external validation.

When we have self-respect, we recognise our worth and treat ourselves with dignity. We value who we are — our principles, boundaries, and individuality — regardless of what others think. This allows us to feel confident without arrogance, and keeps our sense of self-worth steady even when things go wrong. Moreover, there is greater inner peace as we are kinder to ourselves, more forgiving of mistakes, and feel less need to seek the approval of others.
