Opposition parties on Wednesday staged a protest during President Droupadi Murmu's address to a joint sitting of Parliament on the opening day of the Budget Session, opposing the repeal of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and its replacement with the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act.

As the President highlighted the new legislation, which guarantees 125 days of employment in rural areas, Opposition MPs stood up in protest, demanding that the law be withdrawn. National Democratic Alliance MPs thumped their desks in support of the government as the protest continued.
