Cardinal Kevin Ferrell made the official announcement at 7:35 AM: "At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church," he said, expressing deep gratitude for Pope Francis' unwavering devotion and compassionate leadership. The news came just one day after the Pope's surprise public appearance on Easter Sunday, where he blessed a crowd of over 35,000 at St. Peter's Square. Despite recent health issues, including a bout with pneumonia, he continued his ministry with resilience and grace.
With Pope Francis' passing, attention now shifts to the process of selecting a new leader for the Catholic Church—a process steeped in tradition, secrecy, and spiritual reflection.
