The Indian community is recognised as the third-largest ethnic group, skilled migrants in New Zealand.
India has a significant role to play in the Indo-Pacific as its size and geo-strategic heft is crucial in an increasingly multipolar world, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said on Monday while backing New Delhi's bid to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
In an address at the Raisina Dialogue, Luxon underlined the need to ensure a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific and asserted that the "might makes right" approach was unacceptable, remarks that came amid China's increasing muscle-flexing in the region.
The Kiwi leader said countries like India play such a central role globally and New Zealand supports New Delhi getting a permanent seat in a reformed UN Security Council.
Luxon, currently on a five-day official visit to India from March 16 to 20, has praised the Indian community in New Zealand for their massive contribution to the country's economic and social development.
Speaking on the sidelines of his visit, Luxon highlighted that the Indian community is the third-largest ethnic group in New Zealand, the largest source of skilled migrants, and the second-largest source of international students.
"The Indian community is the third-largest ethnic group in New Zealand, India is our largest source of skilled migrants, and our second largest source of international students. In short, Indian-Kiwis make a massive contribution to New Zealand, and I'm proud of what this community does for our country," Luxon stated in a post on X.
Luxon arrived in New Delhi on Sunday and will serve as the chief guest and keynote speaker at the 10th edition of the Raisina Dialogue from March 17 to 19.
