India expands semiconductor mission with Rs 4,600 cr projects

The facilities will be set up in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha, creating over 2,000 skilled jobs and strengthening India's role in the global chip supply chain.

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said construction on all four projects will begin within six months. Calling semiconductors a "strategic industry," he stressed that self-reliance in this sector is essential for any country aspiring to developed-nation status. With these approvals, the ISM portfolio rises to 10 projects in six states, with total investments of Rs 1.6 lakh crore.
