Haryana cracks down on private schools over expensive books, uniforms

The Haryana government has taken strict steps against private schools for troubling parents and students at the start of the new academic year.

The Education Department has issued an advisory with important rules to stop schools from forcing parents to buy expensive books, heavy bags, and new uniforms every year.

The department has clearly told schools not to pressure parents to purchase high-priced books from private publishers. Only NCERT and CBSE-approved books should be made compulsory, the advisory said.

Also, schools have been instructed to strictly follow rules related to the weight of school bags. According to the rules, students of Class 1-2 should carry bags weighing no more than 1.5 kg, Classes 3-5 up to 3 kg, Classes 6-7 up to 4 kg, Class 8-9 up to 4.5 kg, and Class 10 up to 5 kg.
