A total of 5,335 fresh Covid-19 infections were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours, marking a significant jump from Wednesday's tally of 4,435 cases, the Union health ministry said.

As per the data reports on Thursday, it is the highest single-day rise in the last nearly six months, the ministry said. The Covid-19 cases in India have seen an upward trend in the past few days, with the number of daily fresh infections ranging from 2,994 on 1 April to 3,824 on 2 April, 3,641 on 3 April, 3038 on 4 April, and 4,435 on 5 April .

India presently has 25,587 active Covid cases, with a daily positivity rate of 3.32 percent, according to the ministry.

With 2,826 recoveries in the previous day, there have now been 4,416,82,538 recoveries overall. It went on to say that India's recovery rate is presently 98.75 percent.
