In the wake of recent reports of cough syrup contamination with Diethylene Glycol (DEG), the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has introduced a Digital Monitoring System on the ONDLS (Online National Drug Licensing System) portal to closely monitor the supply chain of high-risk pharmaceutical solvents.

The Directorate General of Health Services, under the Union Health Ministry, issued a directive to all State and Union Territory Drug Controllers, instructing them to ensure strict compliance with the new system. The move aims to enhance transparency and safety in the manufacture and distribution of pharmaceutical-grade solvents like Propylene Glycol, which are often used in cough syrups.
