A ground-level survey of the Udham Singh Nagar Parliamentary constituency was conducted by India News to analyse the performance of Ajay Bhatt, the Member of Parliament from Udhamsingh Nagar, and gather voters' feedback about him.

ASSESSING AJAY BHATT'S PERFORMANCE AS NAINITAL-UDHAMSINGH NAGAR'S MP

On September 30, 1995, the establishment of Udhamsingh Nagar district marked its separation from Nainital district in the Terai region of Uttarakhand.

Ranked as the third most populous district among Uttarakhand's major industrial centres, Udhamsingh Nagar boasts the presence of India's inaugural Govind Ballabh Pant Agricultural University.

In the politically active terrain of Uttarakhand's hills, Ajay Bhatt, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), currently serves as the Member of Parliament, representing the region.

The creation of the Nainital Udham Singh Nagar seat occurred after the delimitation in 2008, replacing the Nainital Lok Sabha seat. The BJP has clinched victory in the last two general elections.

Analyzing the dynamics of the Nainital Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency provides valuable insights into the political landscape. Since 1952, Congress has secured victory 12 times, while the BJP has emerged victorious four times, and Janata Dal and Janata Party once each.

Considered a VIP seat, voters in this constituency prioritize development while expressing concerns about the post-election visibility of Members of Parliament in the hilly areas.

While developmental progress is evident in the plains, the mountainous regions have received increased attention in recent years.

With 14 assembly seats and a voter base exceeding 1.9 million, the constituency showcases a diverse caste equation. Hindu, Muslim, and Dalit voters, along with significant numbers of Rajput and Brahmin voters, contribute to the intricate caste dynamics during elections.
