Residents and visitors cut off from village after main road was closed

RESIDENTS and visitors to a quaint seaside village that gets flooded with tourists have been left fuming after the main road in and out was closed by Cornwall Council.

The authority said the work was necessary to stabilise the nearby cliff or risk seeing Cliff Road, which runs between Newlyn and Mousehole, disappear into the sea.
The work, planned between May 19 and July 4, involved road closures being put in place. A council spokesperson said: "Following a recent cliff failure, we are undertaking essential stability work to prevent further erosion and the potential loss of Cliff Road between Newlyn and Mousehole"
Cornwall Council and its contractor Cormac put a two-way traffic lights system in place to allow single-file traffic to go past the work area.
It added: "We understand that this project will impact local traffic, and we have designed our programme to minimise closure duration and reduce disruption to the community as much as possible."
