Proposal for park-and-cycle facility approved as part of travel scheme
The Cornishman
|July 10, 2025
PLANS to create a park-and-cycle facility on disused railway sidings in Penzance have been bacled by Cornwall Council.
The scheme for Ponsandane at Eastern Green was developed by the Penzance Town Deal board, in conjunction with Network Rail, as part of its Sustainable Travel Network project which aims to create safe and accessible walking and cycling routes and green urban spaces around the town.
The project is being delivered by Cornwall Council in partnership with the Penzance Town Deal Board.
The park-and-cycle scheme, aimed at encouraging people arriving by car to leave their vehicles and switch to more sustainable methods of transport, will involve building a 62-space car park on the former railway sidings on the main approach to Penzance. Five spaces will be specifically marked as accessible.
There will also be a group of 14 secure, lockable stands for those who wish to leave cycles at the site for convenience and a drop-off area for two vehicles.
