Immediate decisions on controversial issues bode well for new administration

THE first cabinet meeting by Cornwall's new Liberal Democrat/ Independent coalition was certainly a lesson in good PR and marketing, writes the Local Democracy Service's Lee Trewhela.
Perhaps the new administration learned from Labour's winter fuel payments train wreck straight after its election win last July and decided that the best way to start is with some good news.
So we got three big announcements at Lys Kernow/ New County Hall in Truro last Wednesday morning.
Cabinet announced it will scrap the much-criticised ‘sale’ of Cornwall Airport Newquay and the transfer of 19 council-owned car parks to its own company Corserv, which were likely to be managed by unpopular private enforcement companies.
