Summer Cup draw a real delight

We are gearing up to the Betway Summer Cup and I am absolutely ecstatic with my draw of No 1 for my ride, The Ultimate King.

The R6-million race is the richest in the country and it looks to be a superb event once again, but we will discuss that in next week's column.

Racing tomorrow takes place at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth while racing on Sunday will be on the Inside track at Turffontein.

Of course, we will be focusing on the Turffontein card where the headliner on the card is Race 5, a Middle Stakes over 1000m.

I only have three rides on the day but they should be competitive and I am hoping that I'll get on the board.

Race 1 is a Maiden Plate over 1000m and I think Rockabilly is the horse they all have to beat.

His debut was a really good effort when finishing second in a decent race and with any expected natural improvement, he should take all the beating.

Hawksdale has been somewhat disappointing in that she has not yet shed her maiden tag but she gets the addition of blinkers and she jumps from the best draw so if that makes a difference, then she is the main danger.

Taking A Risk drops back to the minimum trip but she is having her third run after a rest and on her best form she can run into the money.

Race 2 is a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1000m and this is a fairly open and competitive race, but I think Winter Belle is the filly to beat.

Her form in this race sets the standard and I think the blinkers will make all the difference.

Duchess Di ran a really good race on debut showing tons of pace. On that she will enjoy the drop back in trip and off a good draw is the main danger.
