0n Sunday morning, Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa was at pains to explain what he calls Eskom's "calculated aggression" with planned maintenance, which has tightened the reserve margin on its electricity network.
The utility unexpectedly lost 10 generating units and had to implement Stage 6 load shedding shortly after midnight on Saturday. It hopes to reduce the intensity during the week and suspend it by the end of the week.
Ramokgopa, together with Eskom leadership, profusely apologised for the "agitation, frustration and anger" the intense load shedding which leaves electricity users without power for eight to 10 hours a day - causes.
Eskom reduced load shedding from Stage 6 to 4 just before 1am yesterday, before the work week.
It said Stage 4 would be implemented "until further notice".
