Philanthropy in the generational wealth context

Generational wealth is the deliberate transfer of assets, values, and opportunities from one generation to the next. Money and investments are important, but true generational wealth is more than financial capital. It also includes intellectual, social, human, and spiritual capital.

Within this broader view, philanthropy plays a key role. It is not only about giving money away. It is a way to build a family legacy, strengthen shared values and create a positive impact that can last for many years.

My wife and I founded Vessels of Mercy out of a deep conviction that our family should be actively involved in caring for vulnerable children. We also wanted our own children to grow up with the understanding that generosity is not something reserved for adults or for the wealthy.

Why should philanthropy be considered?

Top marginal income tax rates in major economies rose strongly in the middle of the 20th century, and then fell again after the 1980s. When tax rates were high, governments collected more tax and used it for public services and welfare.
