THEATRE APP: SAST TV 'A GROUND-BREAKING ONLINE PLATFORM', SAYS CREATOR

- Brian Sokutu

'New wave, game-changer'

Picture the scene: a theatre at your fingertips, wherever you are and without having to necessarily travel to the SA State Theatre (SAST) in Pretoria or the Opera House in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

Described by SAST TV creator and artistic director Aubrey Sekhabi, as "a coming new wave and game-changer", the online platform to be hit South Africa and the world on Saturday, will be accessible to a taxi commuter in Alexandra, to a subscriber in Los Angeles, United States.

According to Sekhabi, through millions of online subscribers to the application, SAST TV is expected to bring in a projected R7.9 billion to the SAST coffers - creating several jobs for local artists, with followers glued on the screen.

He said SAST TV, conceived 31 years ago, was "a ground-breaking digital platform, dedicated to the promotion, celebration of theatre and entertainment in South Africa".

"It is a first of its kind streaming platform that focuses on delivering high-quality theatre productions to audiences anytime, anywhere on demand," said Sekhabi.
