League title race is hotting up
The Citizen
|March 04, 2026
A neck-and-neck race for the Betway Premiership title between reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates is likely to go on for several weeks, setting up the prospect of an exciting and explosive conclusion to the South African season.
Orlando Pirates' Kamogelo Sebebelebe was man of the match in Saturday's Soweto Derby. Pirates head north tonight and should beat Polokwane City away for the fifth time running.

Pirates have the slightest edge over Sundowns ahead of matches for both tonight. They both have 41 points after 18 games, but Pirates have a goal difference of plus 22 compared to plus 21 for Sundowns.
Neither side can afford a slip-up at this crucial juncture and will find each game they play from now until the end of the season tough and demanding.
Pirates, fresh from a comprehensive Soweto derby win over Kaizer Chiefs at Soccer City last Saturday, are away at Polokwane City this evening, while Sundowns host Golden Arrows and go up against their former coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Arrows inflicted the only league defeat on Sundowns this season when they beat them 1-0 in Durban last September.

Stealing dignity from the grieving
One of the evil characteristics of apartheid and one many South African nonwhite people won't get over easily - was that anyone who was not white was regarded, in law and in treatment, as a lesser being, the untermensch (subhuman) which was the Nazi label for Jews and any non-Aryan.
