CONFIDENCE: TRAINER VAN ZYL BELIEVES HIS CHARGE HAS MATURED AHEAD OF SUMMER CUP

There has been a lot of betting support for KwaZulu-Natal raider King Pelles to win Saturday's R6-million Betway Summer Cup over 2000m at Turffontein and trainer Gareth van Zyl believes his charge is a much better horse than the one who claimed three stayers' races during the KZN winter season.
The five-year-old son of Duke Of Marmalade was one of the standout performers in the winter, winning three major races - the KZN Derby, the Gold Vase and the Gold Cup - over 2400m, 3000m and 3200m respectively, and it was never in doubt that he would claim the Equus Champion Stayers Award for last season.
Now he will be reduced to a race over 2000m and will be looking to scoop his first Grade 1 victory.
