Jockey Fourie Has Winning Feeling For Champs Day

The Citizen

March 26, 2025

Champion jockey Richard Fourie's blistering form at Fairview racecourse this month has seen him overhaul his two nearest rivals as he sets about defending his title in earnest.

- Mike Moon

Bookmakers have never doubted Fourie would rise to the top again this season, even as he took a breather from the last term's heroic efforts and Craig Zackey and Gavin Lerena ran up commanding leads in the winning tally.

Fourie, who before 2023/24 showed little interest in title-chasing, clearly became hooked on the great pursuit, travelling around the country and riding like a demon – and setting a record of 378 winners that's unlikely to be beaten soon.
