Violence has no place in football, and this fact is undeniable. What occurred during the first leg quarterfinal match of the Caf Champions League between Mamelodi Sundowns and Esperance at Loftus Versfeld was nothing short of barbaric.

Similarly, the scenes at Cape Town Stadium between Stellenbosch FC and Zamalek fans must be condemned, as they have no place in the modern game.

In my experience covering Caf football, I've found that many North Africans have little regard for the rules or rule of law. Whether it's during press conferences or on the pitch, there's a persistent display of a superiority complex.
