EXPERT GUIDE: WHAT WORLD LEADING ECONOMISTS SAY MATTERS MOST DURING SLOWDOWN >>→ From tariffs to inflation and climate risks, the economy is shifting fast.

- Munaf Mukadam

The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently released its Chief Economists' Outlook: September 2025.

I've reviewed the report and simplified it into a Q&A format, focusing on the questions I frequently hear from clients.

The news keeps talking about the global economy slowing down. Should I be worried?

Not worried, but aware. According to the WEF, nearly three out of four economists (72%) expect global growth to weaken.

The main concerns are US tariffs, high debt and uncertainty around artificial intelligence (AI).

So, is the world heading for a recession?

Not necessarily. Think of it like driving on a road full of potholes.

Some regions (the US and Europe) are slowing, while others (South Asia and parts of Africa) are holding up better.

And what about AI?

AI is being called a "general-purpose technology" transformative as electricity or the internet were in earlier eras. For investors, this means AI could drive productivity and growth.

Things to keep in mind:

Could Maharaj's Test spot be in danger?

It feels silly to even suggest this, but based on the performances of the country's strong spin bowling contingent, Keshav Maharaj's place in the national Test team might be in danger.
