FSCA hits Sanlam unit with R10.6m fine

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) has imposed a R10.6 million administrative penalty on Sanlam Collective Investments (SCI) for failing to comply with key provisions of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) Act, including deficiencies in its risk management and compliance systems.
The financial sector watchdog announced the fine yesterday, which is essentially linked to noncompliance of anti-money laundering rules.
The FSCA said the sanction follows a March 2024 inspection that found SCI's Risk Management and Compliance Programme (RMCP) was not effectively implemented, particularly in clients' risk rating.
