Court Stops Impounding of E-hailing Cars

The City of Tshwane will seek a legal opinion after the High Court in Pretoria granted an urgent interdict in favour of e-hailing service Wanatu and seven co-applicants, stopping the city from impounding their vehicles, spokesperson Selby Bokaba said yesterday.

The interdict prohibits the Tshwane Metro Police Department from impounding e-hailing service vehicles until the process of obtaining permits is resumed.

"The city will study the ruling and seek a legal opinion," said Bokaba.

"Furthermore, the city will engage with its national and provincial counterparts from the department of roads and transport to map the way forward upon receipt of a legal opinion."

Pretoria e-hailing driver Thabang Bonang said: "What this means is that Uber, Bolt and inDrive also can't be impounded.

"Interesting developments and a victory for AfriForum and Wanatu," he said.
