PAUL DENNINGTON SET OFF FROM NORTH SHIELDS TO WALK MORE THAN 500 MILES

- By SAM VOLPE

NORTH Shields-born Paul Dennington has walked 500 miles since August 3 as he continues a mission which has seen him raise more than £116,000 for charity since being diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer.

His “march through life” has taken him past places he's lived over the years - and he'll finish this weekend in Kent where he has been since 1998.

Speaking to The Chronicle on day 31 of his epic journey, Paul, 59, explained he had been pleasantly surprised by how things had gone thus far - encounters with rogue bulls notwithstanding. He said: “It’s gone well. It’s been fantastic to see and walk with lots of different people.

“We have had some different challenges - such as getting trapped in fields with bulls... But my feet have lasted better than I could have hoped!”

Paul's cancer journey started during lockdown. After a year of trouble with a groin problem - which turned out to be unrelated to his cancer - he was referred to an urologist who gave him a PSA test. His levels were extremely high.
