Pub toasts unveiling of Gap tree trunk 'slice'
The Chronicle
|November 28, 2025
THE Northumberland pub closest to where Sycamore Gap once stood has unveiled a slice of the felled tree trunk.
A slice of the Sycamore Gap tree will be permanently displayed on the wall near the entrance of the Twice Brewed Inn
The Twice Brewed Inn has been working with the National Trust for months to secure a part of the tree, which was illegally felled in September 2023.
It was unveiled at the pub on Monday morning, with a host of pub regulars and those with a connection to the tree present.
Steve Blair, pub manager, said: "We feel very privileged to have this piece in the pub for the customers to come in and see what the tree once was. We feel very lucky indeed."
Lee Hardy proposed to his now-wife Hayley Graham-Hardy under the sycamore in May 2022, and the couple were married seven months later.
However, their wedding photos would be the last time the couple saw the tree standing at the dramatic dip on Hadrian's Wall.
