Predatory paedophile pensioner imprisoned

A PREDATORY paedophile pensioner unmasked by a Sarah's Law application has been jailed for 18 years.

To those who didn’t know him, Henry Renton appeared a harmless elderly man but behind that facade he was a serial child abuser.

The 81-year-old, already serving a 15-year prison sentence for multiple child rapes, was convicted of manipulating and sexually abusing a youngster in Northumberland.

Now he has been told he will be 93 before he has any chance of release.

As we reported previously, his latest abuse came to light when the girl’s dad got a phone call from social services suggesting he make a Sarah's Law application, in which a parent or carer can check if someone poses a risk to a child.

When this was done, it revealed Renton was a convicted child sex offender.

After that revelation, the victim confessed what had happened to her and that led to the police becoming involved. Sentencing him at Newcastle Crown Court,
