Plans for a new British Engines factory at Shields Road in Byker, Newcastle
PLANS for a major new factory in the East End of Newcastle have emerged.
Engineering group British Engines has lodged proposals to develop a derelict plot on the Parsons Works site in Byker.
The firm, owner of eight North East-based businesses employing 1,200 people worldwide, wants to build what is described as a "high quality manufacturing facility" on the Shields Road site, which was previously part of the neighbour-ing Siemens Energy plant but has lain vacant since around 2009.
Documents sent to Newcastle City Council confirm British Engines' desire to open a new factory on the disused land, which would be made up of three manufacturing facilities and an office block.
