Paedophile who tried to evade justice is jailed for eight years

A FUGITIVE paedophile who tried to escape justice is finally behind bars. Daniel Curtis abused a girl after getting her to send a string of sexually explicit messages on social media.
The 40-year-old was reported to police after the messages were discovered and he was charged with a number of sexual offences in 2022.
But Curtis, of Hugh Gardens in Benwell, Newcastle, repeatedly failed to appear at court, prompting a manhunt by Northumbria police.
Eventually apprehended, a trial at Newcastle Crown Court in May found Curtis guilty of seven offences of sexual activity with a girl.
He has now been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.
