THE redevelopment of a Newcastle school has been signed off by city bosses.

- By DANIEL HOLLAND

Councillors granted planning permission on Friday morning for a transformation of Regent Farm First School, in Gosforth.

The project will see a new two-storey school built on the Wansbeck Road South site, as well as sports pitches, a multi-use games area and a 50-bay car park.

Pupils will continue to learn in the school’s existing building while the new development is under construction, with the current facility scheduled for demolition once the works are complete.

However, a school’s detached single storey building that provides a learning environment for visually impaired children and children with special educational needs (SEND) will be retained.
