FOOTBALL is concerned that the infamous Alexander Isak transfer will set a pattern of player power that can become a trend and effectively render the contract system useless.
The worry is that the message has gone out: be a bad boy, kick up a stink, and you'll get what you want. Honour the contract you willingly signed and you most certainly won't.
Isak walked out on Newcastle to join the Premier League champions Liverpool against the wishes of his club and with three years of his contract remaining.
It must be said that Yoane Wissa, United’s new signing, adopted exactly the same stance at Brentford and was also successful.
Meanwhile, the good guys, Marc Guehi and Jorgen Strand Larsen, who wanted moves but decided against haranguing their current paymasters, continued to play magnificently and failed to get their heart's desire. If you want to go to Liverpool there is only one way to guarantee it and it isn’t Guehi’s way.
