HE BROKE WINDOW BEFORE PUNCHING THE VICTIM

- By DAVID HUNTLEY Reporter

A man who subjected his ex-partner to a campaign of harassment before smashing her car window and punching her has been jailed for more than two years.

Jordan Newton bombarded his ex with numerous calls, despite being banned from doing so, before things turned violent.

The 29-year-old met up with his ex in the early hours of the morning as she was parked up. He then punched her car window through before punching her repeatedly in the head, leaving her injured.

Newton later called her, laughing and threatening her not to call the police otherwise she would “never see” her kids again. The woman said Newton left her terrified and “destroyed” her self-worth.

On Thursday, Newton, of Charlotte Street, South Moor, Stanley, appeared at Durham Crown Court via link from HMP Holme House to be sentenced for harassment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, breach of a non-molestation order and criminal damage. He had pleaded guilty to the offences.
