Magpies set to benefit from major rule change

New changes coming for the 2026/27 season are designed to promote an opportunity for all clubs to aspire to greater success.

Following an extensive consultation, clubs agreed to bring in Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) and Sustainability and Systematic Resilience (SSR) proposals in what has been described the biggest financial shake up in years.

However, the clubs voted against the proposal of anchoring (TBA) which was seen as a new salary cap.

A total of 12 of the teams voted against that proposal, while seven were in favour of it and one club abstained.

Under the proposal of TBA, clubs would not have been allowed to spend more than five times the money earned in the previous campaign by the team that finished bottom in payments given out by the Premier League.
