Honour for community pub
The Chronicle
|October 03, 2025
AN old pub that was saved from closure has gone on to be named one of UK's best.
The 116-year-old Ye Olde Cross in Gateshead - which was brought back to life by the local community - now features in CAMRA’s new 2026 Good Beer Guide.
The Campaign for Real Ale’s guide to the best pubs in the industry includes a list of community-owned success stories and among them is Ye Olde Cross, a previous CAMRA Pub Saving Award winner in 2019. That was the year that the attractive-looking boozer in Old Ryton Village was reopened by determined local residents who had never run one before.
