HMRC threat to award-winning constructors
The Chronicle
|September 01, 2025
AN award-winning North East construction company is exploring options after being hit with a winding up order by HMRC.
Former North East Company of the Year Merit, which is based in Cramlington, Northumberland, is believed to be working with business advisors on possible refinancing after a number of overdue bills put it in difficulty.
The firm has faced a number of winding up orders this year from other companies, which have been resolved.
But it now faces similar action from the tax authority.
HMRC's reasons for the court action have so far not been revealed.
However, officials say they act to protect taxpayers’ money - tending to only issue court orders after exhausting other options.
