Gordon: I'm still no.1 for United spot-kicks

NEWCASTLE United winger Anthony Gordon expects to remain the club's number one penalty taker this season, despite Nick Woltemade's 'top' spot-kick against Nottingham Forest.

- By SEAN MCCORMICK Football writer

After Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both left the club in the summer, Newcastle had to assign a new penalty taker for this season.

But it took until the ninth match of the season for a spot-kick to be awarded and to see who Eddie Howe had tasked to be the man from 12 yards out this season.

Last week's 4-0 win over Union SG in the Champions League saw Newcastle twice awarded a penalty kick, and on both occasions it was Gordon who stepped up confidently to tuck the ball into the back of the net.

However, Woltemade was keen to take the second of those penalties and had to be walked away from the situation by Joelinton as he desperately wanted to add to his tally.
