Fresh worries over access to beloved park
The Chronicle
|October 11, 2025
FRESH concerns have been raised over access to a beloved Newcastle green space, after safety concerns sparked the closure of another bridge.
Newcastle City Council has shut the pedestrian bridge into Jesmond Dene from the rear of Dene Terrace.
The move comes just weeks after similar worries led to the closure of the Cherry Tree Walk bridge in the Dene. Civic centre officials said on Wednesday that they hoped to "resolve the situation as swiftly and safely as possible", but could not say when either footbridge would be able to reopen.
The blocking of the wooden Dene Terrace bridge, which was closed in September, has sparked concerns among locals that their access to the picturesque park could be lost for months to come.
