PRODUCED EVIDENCE IN ANOTHER OFFICER'S NAME
A DETECTIVE sergeant who submitted a statement in the name of another officer has been demoted.
DS Katrina Moore, of Northumbria Police, had 20 years of service and was on the cusp of becoming an inspector.
A misconduct hearing heard how she produced an extract of mobile phone evidence and a signed statement in the name of another officer. The officer was not on duty at the time and was unaware of the production of the exhibit or statement.
Three days later, they were submitted to Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as evidence in a case. DS Moore's conduct was found to be gross misconduct and she was given a reduction in rank to constable.
Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine said: "I find it impossible to believe that when typing over the statement of another officer DS Moore did not appreciate that what she was doing was making a false representation to CPS about the authorship of that statement and the production of the exhibit.
