Calls for ‘fair share’ of barriers at other Metro stations

CALLS for Metro ticket barriers to be introduced in North Tyneside have emerged following the installation of gates elsewhere.

On Monday, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and Nexus announced the start of a £2.1m project to install new ticket barriers across the Tyne and Wear Metro.
Regent Centre was identified as the first station to be invested in, with more than 1.3 million passengers passing through every day. The project also aims to improve safety, particularly for women and girls.
Now, the leader of North Tyneside Council's Conservative opposition expressed his hope that the borough would receive its “fair share" of barriers as the roll-out continues.
