Banned driver was let go after police failed to check details

A BANNED motorist who was pulled over by police was able to drive home after the officer failed to do the "proper checks".

Marek Cicko was behind the wheel of a Mercedes when he was pulled over by police near Westgate Road in Newcastle last year. But despite being disqualified and driving without insurance, the 35-year-old was "sent on his way" by the officer after they failed to carry out the proper checks.
